News and Introduction of Yammer

Have you heard or used “Yammer“? I had just used it a few days ago. And I use the windows version, Yammer itself because there are several versions as to linux, iphone, blackberry or Windows Mobile.

What is Yammer?

Yammer is a microblogging service launched in September 2008. Like Twitter, it allows users to post updates of their activities, follow others’ updates, tag content, and create memes. Unlike Twitter, Yammer focuses on businesses, and only individuals with the same email domain can join a given network.

In addition to standard microblogging features like posting messages, addressing messages, following people, Yammer offers the following features:

  • Replies and threads
  • Tags
  • Public and private groups within the network
  • File and photo attachments
  • Sending and receiving messages via IM, SMS and Email
  • iPhone, iPod touch and BlackBerry clients
  • Security features like removing users who no longer work at the company, IP restrictions, etc.
  • Network color and logo customization
  • Social bookmarking
  • A RESTful API (uses OAuth for authentication)
  • SSL
