Motorola Canopy is one of Radio Wireless devices are good enough that no field current. For the purposes of backhaul, the equipment is not much. Only the following radio antenna and power supply already in the system Adapator using PoE (Power over Ethernet). Motorola Canopy equipment is connected to the LAN network through RG-45 connector under the Motorola Canopy.

Here is my note about Motorola Canopy backhaul configuration is in my memory :

As for the configuration of this Motorola Canopy 3 most important things for us to configure are:

* Frequency
* Synchronization
* Network IP Address

Canopy is very flexible, can be used to create a simple network up to the complex. Because if you want to create a complex network of the option2nya available.

As for the configuration of this Motorola Canopy 3 most important things for us to configure are:

* Frequency
* Synchronization
* Network IP Address

Canopy is very flexible, can be used to create a simple network up to the complex. Because if you want to create a complex network of the option2nya available.

To be able to communicate, each AP or BH Master (in this case BH canopy can be set as Master and Slave) to the set frequency. And in choosing frekuanse if there are several AP or BH should be separate to Master between 20MHZ ato 25MHz to prevent interference. And to overcome this could be the separation of these, and if there are radio (ie: AP 360 degrees) can then synchronize the emission from the radio. Because this will make Motorola Canopy radiate and receive signals at the same time interval. What can be done by using the Canopy Cluster Management Module `s (CMM) or use the sync cable (use rg-11 6pin and entered the right port at the bottom of the Motorola Canopy)

As for the default IP used Motorola Canopy:
IP Address: 169.254.1.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Default GW: 169.254.0.0

Enabling the Backhaul Timing Master.

To activate the timing master at Motorola Canopy backhaul can dilakukakan on the configuration, in which there are Timing Mode menu has 2 choices of Timing Timing Master and Slave. The default of the Motorola Canopy usually Timing Slave so we need to switch to the Master Timing.

Once we activate Timing Master, then we must nge-save and refresh the appearance of the browser and only then we reboot. After that some important things we need to configure are:

* RF Frequency Carrier, where the value defaults to “none” and we must choose one of the existing frequency. Should be set different from other radio frequency skitar 25MHz to avoid mutual interference.
* Password to view and change the configuration.
* Color Code, which must be the same between the Master and Slave

Then we can ngeset Site Name, Site Contact, and Site Location for radio information. Or we can also ngeset Airlink Security, encryption can be enabled to make it more secure, or SM Scan Privacy disable so we can not backhaul the AP Eval displaying backhaul data or Subscrible Slave Module (SM).

The next menu is how to set IP, here we can ngeset IP Address, subnet mask, and IP Gateway LAN interface.

Configuring Backhaul Timing Slave on

Backhaul Timing Slave configuration is simpler than the Timing Master. In the Status menu we can see Motorola Canopy as a client, we usually will see Session Status, Registered AP, RSSI and Power Level Radio.
We used to set the Slave Timing is:

Custom RF Frequency, where we can setup for Motorola Canopy Channel Scanning on how aja.

Color Code, which must be the same color code with which we set the Timing Master.

Password to view and change the configuration.

Then we can set another IP address, subnet mask, and IP Gateway LAN interface.

The next menu in the Motorola Canopy is a test link menu, which in this menu we can test links that we are doing. Some of the information that we can get is:

* Connection efficiency, both uplink (from Slave to Master) and donwlink (from Master to Slave)
* Data speed

then there is the menu alignment, where we can see configuration and signal strength, jitter and the number of users who use the channels we want to try.

or we can use the menu Spectrum Analyzer to determine the channel that we want to use.
Where here we can see kira2 on how a good channel for us to use because it would appear that there is a frequency conditions around us in realtime by pressing the enable button.

Then also on the menu EAL AP data we can also see Radio2 Motorola Canopy AP and the Timing Master which is around us, so we can determine the correct frequency and does not interfere with other Motorola Canopy radios.

There is have Two Ways to access your Smart Bro Motorola Canopy Page:

First and Easy Way:

1. In Windows XP, go to Control Panel then to Network Connections. Look for Local Area Connection which is your SmartBRO connection. In Windows Vista, it’s slightly different, you either go to Control Panel, then to Network and Sharing Center under Classic View, then choose on the left, Manage Network Connections, there you will see your SmartBro connection which is the Local Area Connection. Another way in Windows Vista is to right click on the Network Connected Icon in your taskbar and select Network and Sharing Center, then Manage Network Conections, then Local Area Connection.

2.) Either OS you have, right click Local Area Connection and select Properties.

3.) Under Windows XP, This connection uses the following items:, double-click on Internet Protocol TCP/IP. Under Windows Vista, This connection uses the following items:, double-click on Internet Protocol Version 4 ( TCP/IPv4).

4.) Set your IP address to 169.254.3.3, and subnet mask to 255.255.0.0., disregard Gateway IP.

5.) Click OK, and close all windows.

6.) Open your internet browser which should be preferably, FireFox,
, and enter in the address bar, 169.254.1.1 , this will take you to the Canopy MS page. That’s the first way to access the Motorola Canopy Page.

Second Way (and more complicated one):

Since the IP Address, 169.254.1.1, will not work this time, unlike the first method, the following steps will help you identify your Canopy address:

1. Follow steps 1-3 from the first method.

2. Then, this time, set your IP address to 10.20.30.40, and subnet mask to 255.0.0.0

3. In Windows XP, on the Start menu, select Run, and type cmd. In Windows Vista, just type, cmd , in “Start Search”

4. Once in the cmd “black widow,” enter the following command: arp -a. It will display the IP addresses connected to your network. Look for an IP address beginning with 10 (10.xxx.xx.xx), take note of it, this is your Canopy address. Note: your Canopy address is not the one with 10.0.0.1.

5.) Close the command prompt window or cmd and open your web browser, preferably Firefox,
, and enter your Canopy address in the address bar, that Canopy address is the one you’ve taken note in step no.4 (10.xxx.xx.xx). That’s it. You can now enter you’re Canopy Page.

Once in the Motorola Canopy page, the possibilities are endless actually, but in this tutorial, the only ways useful is of course to speed up your download or upload speed.

Once in the Motorola Canopy Page, go to Configuration, then to Quality of Service (QoS) Tab. There, enter your desired Sustained Uplink Data Rate and Sustained Downlink Data Rate, note that in Motorola Canopy Lite which i am using, there is a cap of : 1000 kbps, so i choose 750 for downloads and 250 for uploads. It is now up to you to choose whatever suits your internet needs. Don’t forget to also Enable
Hi Priority Channel. See the pic below, it is my own configuration.

To troubleshoot your connection or to simply gawk at it, you can go to Tools, then choose the AP Evaluation tab, there yuo will see the various Base Stations available within your area range. Look for your Color Code Number, the ideal Color Code (or Base Station) is the one with a high RSSI and low Jitter. You can now chage your Color Code (Base Station) in Configuration -> Radio tab. You can change it, then click on Save Changes and then ReBoot.

Sometimes when we trying to connect my laptop to wireless access point, we get a message like this :

“Wireless cannot configure this wireless connection. If you have enabled another program to manage this wireless connection, use that software. If you want windows to configure this wireless connection, start the wireless zero configuration (WZC). For more information about starting the WZC service, see article 871122 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base on the microsoft.com website.”

To Fixes the problem, maybe you can follow the steps below to enable the Wireless Zero Connection on your laptop.

1. Click Start, click Run, type %SystemRoot%\system32\services.msc /s, and then click OK.

2. Double-click Wireless Zero Configuration.

3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.

4. In the Service status area, click Start, and then click OK.

Some wireless adapters’ configuration software deletes the WZC service. If that is the case, you can try this fix by editing registry value.

Caution: Registry editing can be dangerous, use it on your own risk.

1. Click Start – Run and type reg. Then click OK.

2. Browse this registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\WZCSVC

3. Then, create a DWORD value and name it “Start” and set it to 2.

1 : Change Default Administrator Usernames and Passwords

Most routers or access points come enabled with a default set of username/password combinations. These combinations are well documented and available online for hackers to use. If a hacker can access your device’s administrative pages they can modify the configuration and control all aspects of your device. These username/password combinations can be changed from the administrative panel.

2 : Turn on WPA / WEP Encryption

All Wireless devices support some form of encryption. Encryption technology scrambles messages sent over the air and ensures that they cannot be intercepted by hackers. Several encryption technologies exist for wireless communication today. WPA is the strongest commonly available encryption technology for home devices, however, WEP can also be used.

3 : Change the Default SSID

Access points and routers all use a network name called the SSID. Manufacturers normally ship their products with the same SSID set for all routers. For example, the SSID for Netgear devices is normally “NETGEAR”. The Default SSID can be changed from the administrative panel and should be set to something unique.

4 : Enable MAC Address Filtering

Each wireless device possesses a unique identifier called the physical address or MAC address. Access points and routers keep track of the MAC addresses for all devices that connect to them. Wireless routers offer the option to key in the MAC addresses of your home equipment so as to restrict the network to only allow connections from those devices. It ensures that rogue users cannot connect to the wireless router without using advanced MAC spoofing techniques.

5 : Disable SSID Broadcast

The wireless access point or router typically broadcasts the network name (SSID) over the air at regular intervals. This feature was designed for businesses and mobile hotspots where wireless clients may roam in and out of range. For the home user, this roaming feature is unnecessary as it increases the likelihood of an unauthorised gaining access to your home network. Fortunately, most wireless access points allow the SSID broadcast feature to be disabled by the network administrator. Your SSID name can be manually inputted into your devices.

6 : Do Not Auto-Connect to Open Wireless Networks

Connecting to an open wireless network such as a free wireless hotspot or your neighbour’s router exposes your computer to security risks and attacks. Although not normally enabled, most computers are configured to allow automatic connections, without notifying the user. This setting should not be enabled except in temporary situations.

7 : Assign Static IP Addresses to Devices

Most home wireless devices use dynamic IP addresses, which are randomly assigned by DHCP servers. Unfortunately, dynamic IP allocation also works to the advantage of network attackers, who can easily obtain valid IP addresses from your network’s DHCP pool. Turn off DHCP on the router or access point, set a fixed IP address range instead and then configure each connected device to match. Using a private IP address range (like 10.0.0.x) prevents computers from being directly reached from the Internet.

8 : Enable Firewalls On Each Computer and Router

Modern network routers contain built-in firewall capability, which can be easily disabled.

Ensure that your router’s firewall is turned on. For added security, consider installing and running personal firewall software on each computer connected to the router.

9 : Position the Router or Access Point Safely

Wireless signals normally have a wide radius, extending out of homes. A small amount of signal leakage outdoors is not a problem, but the further this signal reaches, the easier it is for others to detect and exploit. Wireless signals often reach through neighbouring houses and into the streets. When installing a wireless home network, the position of the access point or router determines its reach. Try to position these

devices near the centre of the home rather than windows to minimise leakage. Many routers allow you to reduce the range of your router’s signal from the administrative panel.

10 : Turn Off Network During Extended Periods of Non-Use

Shutting down your network when not in use will most certainly prevent outside hackers from breaking in. While impractical to frequently switch off and on the devices, at least consider doing so during travel or extended periods of downtime.
